Fish Curry without Tamarind

 Its common to make Fish curry with Tamarind water. But, Some people due to medication or illness won't be able to include tamarind in their curries. Alot of people specially the elderly people omit tamarind as it it not good for their illness. So, try this way , you will be surprised as the taste is the same and how you can get the same taste of fish curry/ meen kulambu without even adding tamarind. 

So try this Simple Fish curry and A delicious Fish Curry even without adding Tamarind water.



  Fish Curry without tamarind water l மீன் குழம்பு l புளி சேர்க்காமல் மீன் குழம்பு | Samayal Recipes

Ingredients Fish - 500g Onion - 1 Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 Tsp Curry Leaves - Few Tomatoes - 3 Turmeric - 1/4 Tsp Chilly Powder - 3 Tsp Curry Powder - 4 Tsp Salt - 1 & 1/2 Tsp Water - 1 Cup Coconut Milk - 1 Cup





Step by Step 


Add 2 Tbsp of oil. I used Coconut Oil. You can oil of your choice


Once the oil is hot. Add 1 Onion Finely chopped and Stir in Medium Flame


Add Few curry leaves. It gives great smell .


Stir till the onion gets translucent


Now add 1 Tsp of Gingergarlic paste. Generally people do not add Ginger garlic paste
I don't know why but trust me add a teaspoon.


Stir till The raw smell of gingergarlic paste goes off


                                           Keep Flame in Medium . Add 3 Medium Size Tomatoes. 
                                          Finely chopped.


Add the spices along with the tomatoes to get cooked


1/2 Tsp Turmeric


I have added 3 Tsp of Chilly Powder


4 Tsp of Curry Powder


Mix well. Keep Flame low and let the tomatoes get cooked along 
with the spices



Add 1/2 Cup of water 


Close the lid. and let it cook for about 2 minutes


Once you see the tomatoes have cooked well. 

Add the Fish pieces 


Let the masala and fish pieces coated well


Add 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of water for the fish to get cooked


Close the lid
Let it cook for about 5 to 8 minutes
depending on the type of fish you add. check the time. 
As all know the time for the fish to get cooked in very less

Finally add Coconut milk. I have added 1 cup of coconut milk
This makes the gravy thick, more tasty 


After adding the coconut milk .You dont need to cook it for a long time. 
You can switch off the flame in 2 minutes.

Fish Curry / Meen Kulambu is ready.
